Character Name: Yoshiya ‘Joshua’ Kiryu
Canon: The World Ends With You
AU/OC/Previous Game: N/A
Age: Unknown; I usually pretend ~100.
Appearance: Joshua has two forms- one appears to be about 15, and the other early to mid 20s. In his teenage form, he’s very much a pretty boy, with wavy light blonde hair and purple eyes. In his older form, he’s very androgynous by nature of he’s hard to see, being surrounded by light and everything. His features are very indistinct.
Cause of Death: An up-and-coming Player made their way to the River and killed him in order to take his place as the Composer.
Impact of Death: Heeeee’s kind of pissed. He put a lot of work into Shibuya, thanks, for some upstart to just come and take it. B|

Character Info:
Joshua is, as Neku so eloquently puts it, a ‘jerkface.’ He’s arrogant, condescending, and really doesn’t seem to give a damn about anyone. He is clever, and uses it to manipulate people. Most of the time they don’t realize they’ve been used until it’s over. This is partly because he rarely gives a direct lie- he just knows what conclusions people will jump to if he says the right things. He can play innocent until the final moment, even though most people can tell before that he’s at least up to something.
When he’s not being cryptic, he’s usually teasing (spending a decent amount of time during the game semi-flirting with the main male character), but he himself is very hard to rile. This attitude in general makes him seem very condescending, which in ways he is, but part of it is just that he’s not great at communicating on a personal level. It’s stated that’s been alone most of his life (and presumably, death) and he’s never really had many friends. He is completely capable, if usually not willing, to communicate on a professional level, but when it comes to friendship he’s a bit out of the loop. When it comes to people in general, prior to his Game with the Conductor he was very cynical, and was growing bitter with the people and their waste of talent in his city. However, after dealing with Neku, he has become more open and more willing to see the good in others. (Even if he still acts like a jerk.)
The select few that manage to get past the exterior don’t get much in terms of a nicer personality. In fact, it usually leads to more teasing and more pushing. Joshua’s way of getting people to change isn’t to gently push, but more forcibly shove and force them to face the things they don’t want to. It helps that he’s such a jerk that people usually want to prove him wrong. However, he will work to protect the people he cares about, even though as the Composer he can’t spend time with them like a normal person.
Overall, Joshua is kind of a jerk, especially to people he doesn’t care about. However, he’s got a soft spot for people he cares about and really does understand that people as a whole are worth it.
Joshua shows up in game during Neku’s second week, and they don’t exactly hit it off. His attitude really annoys Neku, and the fact that Neku gets the growing suspicion throughout the week that Joshua is responsible for his death. When Joshua sacrifices himself to save Neku at the end of their week, Neku feels really bad. Even though he shouldn’t, because he was right, and Joshua wasn’t really dead.
Joshua is the Composer of the Reaper’s Game, where everyone there is dead and competing for a second chance at life, and he wanted to destroy Shibuya. His second in command disagreed, so they played a Game of there own, with Shibuya as the prize. Because Joshua was basically god, he had to pick a proxy- Neku. Who he did kill in order to make him his proxy.
At the end of Neku’s third week, all this is revealed, and Neku is understandably angry. Joshua proposes one more game, where he hands Neku a gun, counts down from ten, and the first to shoot wins and decides what happens to Shibuya. Neku can’t shoot someone he considers a friend, but apparently Joshua can. However, he’s changed his mind, and restores Neku and his friends to life, watching over them from the UG.
Abilities (after Powercap): His powers will be limited to what he had during Neku’s Game- using his cellphone to attack with either large falling objects or levitating and attacking with light beams. He can also sidestep and stun enemies. He also retains the power to change forms- his teenage, adult, and little ball of light forms.
